Dear SIGCSE Community,
We are so excited to announce that SIGCSE TS 2023 registration has opened! You can register at https://cvent.me/Kkdomr.
SIGCSE TS 2023 will be held March 16-18, 2023 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Robert Thirsk will open the symposium on Thursday morning and Dr. Nichole Pinkard will close the symposium on Saturday. We are also excited to confirm that Dr. Renée McCauley, recipient of the 2023 SIGCSE Award for Lifetime Service to the Computer Science Education Community will speak at Thursday’s first-timers luncheon and our Friday keynote will be Dr. Susan Rodger, recipient of the 2023 SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education.
SIGCSE TS 2023 will host our first Minority Serving Institution (MSI) gathering on Friday, March 17th, 2023 from 5:30-6:30 PM EST. Our two new MSI co-chairs, Debzani Deb and Jody Paul have written the following and look forward to meeting you all: This meeting will welcome all faculty from Minority Serving Institutions and those with an interest in improving the SIGCSE experience for participants from MSIs. Participants will share experiences and collectively identify ways to effect greater inclusion in the SIGCSE TS of those from Minority Serving Institutions and to foster growth in future participation. In addition, we will continue with our Community College celebration on Thursday night, our Global lunch on Friday, and our K-12 lunch on Saturday.
Once registered, please look for an email confirming your registration. In that email, you will find links for registering children for KidsCamp, ordering a conference t-shirt, finding a roommate, purchasing carbon offsets for travel, and contributing to the SIGCSE Travel Grant program.
To help reduce food waste, there will be a $10.00 charge for the boxed lunch on Saturday. This charge has been introduced so lunches are only made available to attendees that are interested in consuming them. Our hope is that this modest additional fee will reduce waste without preventing anyone from participating in the lunch that would like to do so.
We will be offering morning coffee, tea, and hot cocoa to all attendees again this year. Our Authors’ Breakfast is also being switched to an all-day Authors’ Lounge for in-person presenters. The Authors’ Lounge is available to authors on the day of their presentation. The lounge will be stocked with coffee, tea, and snacks, open all day, and is tucked away from the main conference areas. We encourage you to use this space to prepare for your presentation and meet with your session chair and fellow presenters.
These changes were made based on responses to the 2022 attendee surveys, and to support the goals of reducing waste and keeping costs low. We hope that you like these changes and we look forward to seeing you at the 2023 SIGCSE Technical Symposium.
