Once upon a time, CS education was only about technical content. Later, due in large part to SIGCAS developed curricula, ethics entered the curriculum. Today, comprehensive CS education should also incorporate accessibility, sustainability, the impact of algorithmic bias, the positive and negative impacts of computing solutions, the role computing plays in maintaining of societal structures (both good and bad), and other societal issues.
This session will introduce you to the education-related programs (Annual Showcase, Works in Progress), conferences (GoodIT, COMPASS), and initiatives (HFOSS, CSG-Ed) of SIGCAS: the ACM Special Interest Group on Computers and Society.
Isn’t it time you adopted the SIGCAS definition of computing: A powerful tool for societal change.
