The COVID pandemic has upset global education. In the United States, according to the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) 2022 report, American students have lost decades of academic progress. This puts schools and districts in triage mode in desperate attempts to reclaim lost ground in basic mathematics and literacy. It is coincident with critical challenges in retaining and recruiting K-12 public school teachers. In this environment, policy structures and deployment of equitable CS education have to be reconsidered. This panel will address the current reality, the assessment of our current assumptions, and hope for the future.
