Do you want to embrace digital assessments but have been waiting for the right tool that is fully configurable and customizable for many different use-cases and contexts? Have you ever struggled with creating, maintaining, archiving, and effectively re-using question banks for your assessments year-after-year? Do you think the way we do traditional assessments (“one and done”) does not center student learning, and wish there was another way? Are you a supporter of free and open source software? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, this workshop is for you! We’re a group of PrairieLearn users and contributors from multiple institutions excited to help you benefit from the project, just like we have. Through algorithmic randomization and autograding (with excellent feedback mechanisms), course staff are freed from the shackles of mundane and repetitive tasks which allows them to focus on critical activities that humans perform better than software. In this workshop, we will first motivate and justify the pedagogical need for algorithmic randomization and autograding, and then participants will go through the full flow of doing questions, creating questions, and running courses on PrairieLearn. Join us for an interactive workshop, and bring a web-enabled device to follow along and have a complete experience!
