Peer Reviewing: Cultivating an Equitable and Inclusive Scholarly CommunityIn-Person & Online
Sat 18 Mar 2023 13:00 - 16:00 at 701A - Workshop 401
Calling all computer science educators interested in professional development for peer reviewers! Have you ever had a reviewer number 2 tear apart not only a manuscript, but also you as an author? More importantly, have you ever worried that you have been like this reviewer number 2?
This workshop on equity and inclusivity in peer review aims to change this by providing you with inclusive manuscript reviewing practices, equity for the peer reviewing process, and general best guidelines as a peer reviewer. Through a series of small group activities, self-reflection, and large-group discussions, you will learn what it means to be an inclusive peer reviewer and promote equity in peer review. You will also have the opportunity to review a peer review, understand your own positionality as a reviewer, and brainstorm ways to move our community towards inclusivity, diversity, and equity.
There are no technological requirements for participating in this workshop, but do bring a writing tool and paper. Handouts will also be given during the workshop to help guide your notes and takeaways.
