Sat 18 Mar 2023 13:00 - 16:00 at 718B - Workshop 408

How do we help students develop their ability to critique code, documentation, and other artifacts created by ‘others’? Does this question seem more relevant now that ‘others’ includes AI systems such as GitHub Copilot? If so, join us for an exploration of Refute questions. They can work in any CS course (from K-12 to graduate level), they’re often autogradable (perfect for your ITS or interactive e-book, and your large CS1 class), and many interesting research questions are unexplored. (For instance: Can they span the code-tracing to code-explanation continuum?) With 80 minutes of hands-on and 60 minutes of discussion, this workshop will expose you to a question style that helps students develop a key skill. We will share our entire bank of Refute questions, as well as ideas for more. Bring a laptop!
