Lack of diversity and high dropout ratesamong underrepresented students plague the CSdiscipline. We developed, administered, and validateda set of surveyscales measuring social factors that impact the retention and graduation of underrepresentedCSundergradsat two institutions(a PWI and an HBCU). Results revealed significant differences between students who identify as men vs. women in terms of computing identityand self-efficacy/confidence,and between black and non-black students in terms of familiarity with future opportunities.
